Central Park Five sue Trump for debate remarks

Yusef Salaam, member of the New York City Council, and Reverend Al Sharpton stand onstage with Korey Wise, Raymond Santana and Kevin Richardson, members of the Central Park Five, exonerated after being wrongly convicted of rape as teenagers and incarcerated for years, on Day 4 of the Democratic National Convention, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S., August 22, 2024.

The men formerly known as the Central Park Five filed a defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump, accusing him of making false statements during the presidential debate with Kamala Harris. They seek compensatory and punitive damages for the false accusations made by Trump.

The Exonerated Five, originally accused of a crime they did not commit, have been campaigning against Trump and holding him accountable for his statements. Trump, in turn, dismissed the lawsuit as a desperate attempt by left-wing activists.

The lawsuit sheds light on the wrongful convictions faced by Black and Latino individuals and the importance of seeking justice and truth in the face of defamation.
