An 86-year-old with terminal lung and heart problems, Cyril Tooze, has applied to end his own life due to lengthy wait times for Australian government assistance.
Tooze is among 70,000 elderly individuals waiting for at-home aged care services, highlighting the healthcare crisis in the country.
Despite approval for high-level home care assistance in January, Tooze faced a nine-month wait and has now sought euthanasia under South Australia’s program.
Following public outcry, Tooze received temporary home care but continues to advocate for urgent government investment in the sector.
Local MP Rebekha Sharkie emphasized the doubling of wait times for home support services, calling for immediate action.
