In a recent development in Ukraine, a unified comprehensive action plan for combating organized crime by 2025 is set to be initiated as part of the Strategy to Combat Organized Crime. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and several other key agencies have agreed on the need for this action plan during an interagency meeting.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oleksii Serhieiev outlined the three-stage implementation process of the current Strategy, which includes threat assessment, strategic goal identification, and action plan development. This crucial issue will also be discussed in Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations next week under the chapter of ‘Justice, Freedom, and Security’.
The MIA has already submitted a draft law for establishing an Interagency Coordination Commission on Combating Organized Crime, emphasizing the importance of analyzing risks post-war to enhance the fight against organized crime. The meeting participants emphasized the need for a collaborative effort in developing the comprehensive action plan for 2025.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko recently declared the successful dismantling of a major drug cartel in Ukraine, further highlighting the urgency of addressing organized crime in the region.
