Over the weekend, Pro-Palestine protesters made headlines by shutting down Tower Bridge in London, following a mass protest in Trafalgar Square and Whitehall. The London Metropolitan Police had to intervene to disperse the group and make several arrests.
The protesters, led by a group called Youth Demand, demanded that the UK government stop arming Israel. They were seen chanting “free Palestine,” spray painting, and waving Palestinian and Lebanese flags. Videos circulating on social media captured the intense atmosphere with calls for “hands off the Middle East” and support for intifada.
Youth Demand announced plans for a “National Action Week” starting on November 11, where young people across the UK will participate in similar protests. Other groups involved included Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Prayers4Gaza, Palestine Pulse, Thanet 4 Palestine, and Ealing Friends of Palestine.
This event follows a recent incident where members of Youth Demand were arrested for covering a Picasso painting with a photo of a mother and child from Gaza at the National Gallery in London.
