PTI Declares Stance on Constitutional Package
The PTI announced on Sunday that it would not be supporting the much-discussed Constitutional Package as the government prepared to present it in parliament for approval. This legislation includes amendments such as extending the chief justice’s term, and a special parliamentary committee, which includes PTI representatives, has been deliberating on various proposals.
Saturday’s federal government meeting to discuss the judicial reform package was delayed and eventually adjourned before midnight. The Senate and National Assembly have rescheduled their sessions for today to discuss the constitutional amendment. The Federal Law Minister stated that a revised draft of the amendment would be presented for cabinet approval before moving to the parliament for voting.
PTI Chairman Gohar Khan confirmed that the party will meet with JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman, despite earlier statements from PTI’s Barrister Ali Zafar that they would not support the amendment. The federal government claims to have the necessary votes for passing the amendment but is seeking broader consensus before proceeding.
Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving situation.
