Despite the recent blackout in Cuba, the government announced a gradual restoration of electricity after the nation experienced its worst blackout in two years, leaving millions without power for two days.
Energy Minister Vicente de la O Levy reported that Cuba had 500 megawatts in its electrical grid, a significant increase from the previous situation. Two thermoelectric power plants are back online, with two more expected to resume operations shortly.
The blackout, affecting half of Cuba initially, intensified as the entire island lost power due to a plant failure. Havana’s electricity company confirmed a reduction in megawatts after a plant malfunction, leaving certain areas in darkness once more.
Amidst the blackout, the Cuban government has implemented emergency measures to mitigate the crisis, such as suspending school and university classes and reducing energy demand across various sectors.
