Media should amplify Gen-Z voices before they fade into obscurity

The recent Gen-Z revolt in Kenya highlighted the deep-seated issue of corruption within the country’s governance system. The culture of wealth accumulation through dishonest means has plagued the public sector for years, leading to widespread corruption and negligence of official responsibilities. This not only hinders economic growth but also perpetuates joblessness, poverty, and despair among the population.

Despite the detrimental effects of corruption, the system fails to sanction these vices, with key institutions compromised and incapable of stopping the looting. The youth-led rebellion against this corrupt system presented a new vision for Kenya, sparking hope for change. However, as time passes, these voices are fading from media spaces, replaced by the same old tribal alliances and regime apologists.

It is crucial for the media to amplify the voices of Gen-Z and continue advocating for a more transparent and accountable governance system in Kenya. Without this push for change, the country risks falling back into the same cycle of corruption and neglect, posing a threat to its future stability.
