Iraq, Turkmenistan Ink Gas Deal

Exciting News: Iraq and Turkmenistan have signed an agreement to supply up to 20 million cubic meters of gas per day to Iraq, according to the Ministry of Electricity in Iraq. This deal aims to ensure that gas-fired power plants in Iraq have a reliable fuel source.

With gas-fired power plants currently responsible for around 60 percent of Iraq’s electricity production, the agreement comes as a crucial step in addressing the country’s electricity shortages due to insufficient fuel supplies. Iraq is making efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers like Iran.

Furthermore, the Iraqi Electricity Ministry is also set to enter into a similar agreement with Kazakhstan, highlighting the country’s commitment to securing energy sources and boosting its power sector.

This agreement with Turkmenistan will allow gas to be transported to Iraq via Iran over a five-year period, with all requirements set to be completed by January 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
