Montreal, Canada – India’s high commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, has vehemently denied any involvement in the 2023 killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. In an interview with Canadian network CTV News, Verma dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.
Recently, Canadian police revealed evidence of Indian government agents engaging in criminal activities in Canada, leading to the expulsion of six Indian diplomats, including Verma, as “persons of interest” in Nijjar’s assassination.
Nijjar, a prominent figure in the Khalistan movement, was slain outside a Sikh temple in British Columbia, sparking tensions between Canada and India. Despite Canada’s investigation, India denies any involvement and calls for concrete evidence.
Meanwhile, Sikh communities worldwide, including in the US, have faced threats and attempts to silence their advocacy for Khalistan. Allegations of Indian government officials being involved in plots to harm Sikh activists overseas have further strained international relations.
