IG orders probe into rise of jungle justice, police officer killings

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed strong disapproval of the increasing incidents of jungle justice in Nigeria. In response, he has instructed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department to thoroughly investigate these occurrences and ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law.

The police, as stated by Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, highlighted a specific case in Edo State where suspects were burnt to death by a mob after an attack on a police station. The police have condemned such actions, emphasizing the negative impact they have on the rule of law and the country’s global reputation.

Another incident in Lagos saw a police officer being killed by a mob while attempting to prevent a case of jungle justice against a driver. Adejobi emphasized the need for justice and accountability, mentioning that the IG has ordered a thorough investigation to identify and bring to justice those involved in these heinous acts.
