The Justice Department, after previously approving Virginia’s election reform law aimed at removing noncitizens from voter rolls, is now suing the state over the same law, as per findings by Fox News Digital. In response to Governor Glenn Youngkin’s executive order, the DOJ filed a lawsuit alleging violations of federal laws by Virginia officials. Despite the 18-year history of the law and approval from the DOJ in the past, the agency now claims it contravenes the National Voter Registration Act.
The DOJ’s actions have sparked controversy, as Governor Youngkin defends his order citing a 2006 rule signed by a Democratic governor. The legal battle in Virginia is part of a broader trend of pre-election legal cases across the country, focusing on voter eligibility and election security.
Despite legal disputes, the fundamental intent of ensuring election integrity remains a top priority for all parties involved.
Governor Youngkin’s efforts to uphold the law have faced pushback, leading to the removal of thousands from voter rolls. While the legal battle rages on, the focus remains on protecting the sanctity of the democratic process in the upcoming election.
