Federal Cabinet Approves 26th Constitutional Amendment Draft
The federal cabinet has approved the proposed draft of the 26th constitutional amendment after securing consensus from government coalition parties. The amendment includes extending the chief justice’s term and is part of a larger Constitutional Package discussing various proposals, with a special parliamentary committee formed for this purpose.
The ruling coalition will present the draft of the judicial reform package in both houses of parliament today. However, the PTI has announced a boycott of the voting process in protest against the amendments. PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari stated that the party will attend the sessions but will abstain from voting and record their protest while sitting in parliament.
In a separate development, the government claims to have the required number of lawmakers to pass the amendment, with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar emphasizing the importance of broad consensus among all political parties for constitutional amendments.
Further updates are expected to follow as the situation unfolds.
