Bomb hoax threats cause chaos on Indian airlines

Over 70 fake bomb threats targeting Indian airlines have caused chaos and fear this week, with flights being diverted to Canada and Germany, and fighter jets scrambled in Britain and Singapore. Despite all flights landing safely, the disruptions have had a global impact on airline schedules and costs. Indian authorities have promised strict action against those responsible, with at least one person arrested so far.

Reports suggest that more than 70 hoax threats have been made since October 13, with at least 30 on Saturday alone. An anonymous account on social media was suspended for posting bomb threats to 40 flights, including Indian and international airlines. Flights from Mumbai to New York, New Delhi to Chicago, and New Delhi to London were among those affected, with emergency landings and fighter jet escorts arranged in response to the threats.
