Australia to review 66 military export permits to Israel: Report

Australia is conducting a review of its military export permits to Israel, scrutinizing all 66 permits approved prior to the Gaza invasion last year. The Department of Defense is assessing each permit to ensure alignment with international obligations, particularly in relation to human rights.

Following a request from the Australian Centre for International Justice, Defense Minister Richard Marles is considering the annulment of current export permits to Tel Aviv and other countries that may transfer them to Israel in the future. Despite not supplying weapons to Israel since the conflict erupted, there has been criticism of the lack of transparency regarding the contents of each permit.

The Greens have called for an end to military trade with Israel, while the government defends its contracts with Israeli suppliers for the Australian Defense Force. The review has been welcomed by human rights advocates, emphasizing the need for a full arms embargo on Israel.
