The UN Human Rights Committee, also known as the Committee on Civil and Political Rights (CCPR), raised concerns about rights violations in Pakistan, including social media surveillance, internet blockages during elections, religious intolerance, and curbs on freedoms of expression and movement. The committee also highlighted issues such as student union bans, child rights, forced conversions, and blasphemy laws.
Specific concerns were raised about the restrictions on freedom of association, lack of progress on anti-rape laws, and the high number of forced conversions of Hindu and Christian girls. The committee also addressed issues related to religious intolerance, curbs on the media, online surveillance, and bonded labor.
The Pakistani delegation presented a report on the state of human rights in the country during the review under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). This was the second review of Pakistan since ratifying the ICCPR in 2010.
