JUI-F Withdraws from Constitutional Amendment Process, Calls for More Time for Consultation
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) has decided to withdraw from today’s constitutional amendment process, citing the need for more time to review the proposed legislation. The party expressed concerns about rushing through the amendments without proper consultation and urged the government to avoid hasty decisions.
JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has requested additional time to discuss the implications of the changes before making a final decision. The party aims to ensure thorough consultation with its parliamentary party before moving forward with the amendment.
Despite agreeing on judicial reforms, JUI-F is still not in favor of some points in the draft amendment. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman to address these concerns.
Key amendments demanded by JUI-F include making the state free of interest by 2028 and implementing all types of interest-free Islamic financial systems. The party also called for an additional clause to be added to Article 70-1 of the Constitution.
