In the Lok Sabha elections, the torch symbol was said to look like an ice cream cone.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) allotted a modified ‘Mashaal’ (flaming torch) symbol to Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Faction for the Maharashtra state assembly elections. Previously, the symbol was compared to an ice cream cone by the Uddhav faction during the Lok Sabha polls. After a slight modification, a clearer ‘mashaal’ is now depicted in the symbol.
Eknath Shinde split from Shiv Sena in June 2022, leading to the downfall of the MVA-led Maharashtra government under then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Following the split, the ECI granted the mashaal symbol to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena and two swords and shield to the Eknath Shinde-led faction.
Over the years, Shiv Sena has competed in elections using various symbols like a railway engine, palm trees, and swords with a shield. In 1989, the party acquired the bow-and-arrow symbol after sending four MPs to the Lok Sabha. The upcoming Maharashtra legislative assembly elections will be held in a single phase on November 20, with results announced on November 23.
