Supporters of pro-Iran armed groups in Iraq vandalized offices linked to a Saudi TV channel in Baghdad, following a report that labeled Tehran-backed commanders as “terrorists.” Late Saturday night, a group of 400-500 individuals attacked a production company’s studios in Baghdad working for the Saudi broadcaster MBC.

The interior ministry source mentioned that electronic equipment was destroyed, computers were damaged, and a fire was set in the building. The police managed to disperse the crowd, and no arrests were reported. The area was heavily guarded on Saturday morning.

‘Insulting resistance leaders’

The report circulated on Iraqi social media, focusing on terrorism in the region. It mentioned groups from the “Axis of Resistance” backed by Iran. The report stirred anger, leading to violent protests and threats to cancel MBC’s license in Iraq.

As tensions rise in the region, the rivalry between Iran and Saudi Arabia continues. The conflict in Gaza has halted discussions of Saudi Arabia recognizing Israel. Iraqi lawmaker Mustafa Sanad criticized MBC for allegedly insulting resistance leaders and threatened to revoke the channel’s license in the country.
