The National Hurricane Center in Miami announced the formation of Hurricane Oscar off the coast of the Bahamas on Saturday. Despite being described as “tiny,” the storm prompted the issuance of a hurricane warning by the government of the Bahamas for the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas, as well as a hurricane watch by the government of Cuba for several provinces.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Nadine emerged off Mexico’s southern Caribbean coast, leading to heavy rain and tropical storm conditions in Belize and the Yucatan peninsula. A tropical storm warning was issued for Belize City and areas up to Cancun, Mexico. Nadine was projected to move across Belize, northern Guatemala, and southern Mexico in the coming days.
