Hong Kong seeks HKB for San Tin Technopole amid legal dispute

Hong Kong authorities are pressing forward with plans to develop a technology hub near the border with mainland China, seeking approximately HK$30 billion in funding for the initial phase of the project. Despite facing legal challenges, the government aims to open bidding for the first of three land parcels within the Northern Metropolis, which will house the San Tin Technopole.

The proposed funding will go towards site formation and infrastructure works for the first stage of the technopole, covering about 158 hectares. This development will include space for innovation and technology, logistics, and 5,500 to 6,000 public housing units, with expected completion by 2031.

The San Tin Technopole project is part of the larger Northern Metropolis development, which will span over 600 hectares. Despite challenges, authorities are committed to pushing ahead with plans to create a new business and residential area on 30,000 hectares of land.
