Last year, Ankara expressed interest in acquiring Eurofighter jets, but progress has been slow due to disagreements, particularly surrounding Turkey’s stance on the Gaza conflict. Recently, Germany authorized major arms deliveries to Turkey, signifying a shift in policy after reducing exports following previous Turkish offensives.
The consortium of Airbus, BAE Systems, and Leonardo, involving Germany, the UK, Italy, and Spain, builds Eurofighter Typhoon jets. Although London is leading negotiations, any of the four nations could veto a potential sale.
Concerns over arms sales to Turkey stem from controversial international actions and conflicts, including disputes over Gaza. Despite disagreements, efforts are being made to improve cooperation and find solutions to longstanding issues.
