Sinn Féin TD Mairéad Farrell is set to become the new chair of the Public Accounts Committee, following the resignation of Brian Stanley. Despite some opposition, the Committee of Selection has unanimously agreed to bring Sinn Féin’s proposal to a Dáil vote next week.
In an interview with RTÉ, Farrell emphasized the importance of addressing public money wastage, citing recent controversies like the National Children’s Hospital cost overruns. Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald supported Farrell’s nomination, highlighting her financial expertise and efforts to improve public procurement transparency.
Farrell’s background in finance and economics, along with her proposed legislation, showcases her commitment to accountability and efficiency in government spending. As Sinn Féin’s choice for the PAC chair, she aims to strengthen the committee’s oversight role and ensure proper functioning.
