Ex-India official charged in US murder plot arrested in New Delhi case

A former Indian government official, Vikash Yadav, was arrested in New Delhi in connection with an attempted murder case before being charged in the United States for allegedly leading a foiled murder plot. The US Justice Department unsealed the indictment this week, accusing Yadav of orchestrating a plan to kill a Sikh separatist in New York.

According to the indictment, Yadav, who was identified as an Indian government employee at the time, collaborated with others in India and abroad from May 2023 to target Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a dual US-Canadian citizen.

Yadav was apprehended by Delhi Police on December 18 and faced charges of attempted murder in a Delhi District Court. His lawyer dismissed the Indian allegations as part of an “international plot” to discredit the government of India and his client.
