In Cuba, the government has been working to restore electricity across the island after a second grid collapse in 24 hours. The country’s top electricity official, Lazaro Guerra, is hopeful that capacity will be raised to restore power to more areas soon.
This crisis, worsened by fuel shortages and infrastructure problems, has forced the government to send non-essential workers home and cancel school. Cuba also faces challenges in acquiring fuel due to trade embargoes and sanctions. Despite these difficulties, some Cubans remain resilient, taking the crisis in stride.
The U.S. has denied any involvement in the grid collapse, while Cuba braces for the impact of Hurricane Oscar. The country’s struggle with power outages is a recurring issue, with a previous collapse in 2022 leading to protests.
Despite the challenges, Cuba remains determined to address the crisis and restore electricity to its citizens amidst ongoing hardships.
