Baby dies at Syrian Rukban camp due to aid shortage

Tragic news emerged from the Rukban camp in the Syrian desert as a two-month-old baby passed away due to a lack of medical care. The camp, besieged by Syrian regime forces since 2018, is home to 10,000 displaced civilians facing severe shortages of medical supplies.

With only nurses and trainees without proper qualifications to provide healthcare, the baby succumbed to a high fever. The child’s developmental problems were exacerbated by a lack of formula milk and malnourishment in the camp.

Despite pleas for aid, the camp has been neglected by humanitarian organizations, leading residents to rely on smugglers for essential supplies. With tightened sieges and threatening regimes, the situation has become dire.

Calls for urgent assistance have been made to the nearby US Tanf base, as the camp’s residents face uncertainty and fear of returning to their original cities. The tragic loss of the baby sheds light on the ongoing crisis and the urgent need for humanitarian intervention in Rukban.
