US Charges Indian Intelligence Official in Plot to Kill Sikh Leader

The US Justice Department has charged an Indian intelligence official in connection with a foiled plot to kill a Sikh separatist leader living in New York City. The suspect, who remains at large, is the second Indian national charged with conspiring to murder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, one of the main voices of the Khalistan movement seeking an independent Sikh nation.

FBI Director Christopher Wray emphasized that violence against those exercising their constitutional rights will not be tolerated. The US confirmed Indian authorities’ cooperation in the investigation, stating that the named individual is no longer an Indian government employee.

Meanwhile, Sikh separatist leader Pannun remains undeterred despite threats, stating that alleged assassination plots will not halt the Sikh independence movement. Recent tensions between Canada and India escalated when diplomats were expelled over alleged links to attacks against Sikh leaders.

As the international situation unfolds, Pannun continues his global campaign for Khalistan independence, accusing India of hiring “hitmen” within the Sikh community. India has denied involvement in the alleged plots.
