Poland Imposes Drastic Tobacco Tax Hikes to Reduce Smoking

Poland’s government has approved a new bill that will see a significant increase in taxes on tobacco products by 2025. The goal is to curtail smoking habits, especially among the youth, but the move has also raised concerns about its impact on the budget.

Steep Tax Hikes Coming Soon

Starting March 2025, excise taxes on cigarettes will spike by 25%, followed by further increases in the following years. Roll-up tobacco will also see significant hikes, with e-cigarette liquids prices skyrocketing by 75% in 2025.

Budgetary Concerns Spark Criticism

While the government claims the tax hikes are aimed at reducing tobacco consumption, critics argue the real motive is to boost revenue. With Poland’s budget facing challenges, some see this as a move to target smokers to alleviate financial pressures.
