UK refuses apology for slavery at Commonwealth summit

However, the government has ruled out any statements regarding slavery at the summit, continuing the policy of not apologizing from the previous administration. This decision has sparked debate among the public, with some disagreeing on whether a formal apology is necessary to acknowledge the injustices of the past. Meanwhile, the Commonwealth summit will also vote on a new secretary-general, with all candidates supporting reparations for transatlantic slavery. The King and Queen Camilla are currently in Australia as part of their six-day tour before heading to Samoa for the summit.
