The Government has reached extradition and legal assistance agreements with the United Arab Emirates to facilitate the return of Kinahan Organised Crime Group leaders to Ireland for trial. This includes Sean McGovern, currently in custody in Dubai facing extradition for a murder charge in Ireland.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee is set to sign the treaties in Abu Dhabi next week, highlighting the importance of these agreements in combating organized crime and drug trafficking gangs.
Dubai has been a safe haven for criminals, including the Kinahans, who fled there in 2016 to evade extradition from Spain. The US has also placed sanctions on key Kinahan figures.
