Two Russians on Trial in Poland for Promoting Wagner Group in EU

Two Russians are on trial in Poland for distributing leaflets in Krakow calling for people to join the Wagner Group, declared a terrorist organization in the EU. Andrey G. and Alexey T. are charged with cooperating with a foreign intelligence agency and participating in an international armed group aiming to commit terrorist acts, operating in various EU countries. The men attempted to recruit new members for the Wagner Group by distributing stickers with a QR code linking to the organization’s recruitment website. The defendants posted advertisements in Krakow and Warsaw, passing information to a Russian intelligence organization.

The trial revealed one accused was a textile factory director and the other unemployed. The indictment filed in June includes 600 pages of case material. Arrested in August 2023, they could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty. The Wagner Group, a Russian private military company supported by the Kremlin, operates globally, including in conflicts in Ukraine and Syria, with a history of human rights violations. After a failed coup attempt and the death of their leader, the group’s future remains uncertain.
