PPP’s Khursheed Shah claims committee unanimously accepted constitutional package in Pakistan

Senior PPP leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah announced on Friday that a consensus had been reached within a special parliamentary committee to deliberate on a constitutional package, including amendments like extending the chief justice’s term.

The committee, formed last month with representation from all parties, discussed various proposals and reached a consensus with JUI-F. Despite some opposition from PTI, the draft was unanimously accepted and sent to the federal cabinet for approval.

Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also confirmed a consensus between PPP, JUI-F, and PML-N on the package. However, opposition parties claimed intimidation and harassment to secure support, leading to protests and debates in the National Assembly.

The issue intensified after allegations of mistreating senators to secure votes surfaced. Despite challenges and allegations, the government remains optimistic about introducing the amendments in parliament with the support of various political parties.

Overall, the focus remains on achieving consensus and ensuring the smooth passage of the constitutional package through parliament.
