Maduro ally released in US swap now part of government cabinet | Nicolas Maduro Updates

Colombian Businessman Alex Saab Named New Industry Minister in Venezuela

Recently, Colombian businessman Alex Saab has been appointed as the new industry minister in the Venezuelan government. Saab, a close ally of President Nicolas Maduro, was released in a prisoner exchange with the United States last year and will now take over from Pedro Tellechea in this key role.

The appointment comes as part of a series of cabinet changes made by Maduro following a hotly contested election that sparked political turmoil. Tellechea cited health reasons for his resignation, paving the way for Saab to step in and help drive the development of Venezuela’s industrial sector under a new economic model.

Despite Maduro’s victory being certified by electoral authorities and the high court, doubts persist among election oversight groups, human rights organizations, and the Venezuelan opposition. Pre-election polls had indicated a potential defeat for Maduro, leading to increased dissent and a crackdown on opposition activities.
