Samir Geagea: Lebanon at Risk in Iranian-Israeli War
In a recent interview, Samir Geagea, the head of the Lebanese Forces Party, expressed concern over the Lebanese government’s indifference to the dangers posed by the ongoing Iranian-Israeli war on Lebanese soil. He emphasized the urgent need for a decisive stance that upholds the concept of the state and seeks a ceasefire to prevent further bloodshed and devastation.
Geagea highlighted the chaotic state of affairs in Lebanon, likening it to a ship adrift without a captain amidst turbulent waters. He criticized the Lebanese officials for prioritizing narrow interests, turning the government into a mere “relief committee” rather than a functioning state entity.
Geagea also lamented the increasing influence of Iran on Hezbollah, warning that the organization’s decisions are now entirely driven by Iranian interests. He urged the Lebanese government to take action to uphold Resolution 1701 and confront Hezbollah’s militarization, even at the risk of escalating tensions with Israel.
Despite facing criticism for his stance on disbanding armed militias, Geagea remains steadfast in his belief that Lebanon must take a decisive stand to end the destructive war ravaging the region. He called for immediate government action and international intervention to halt the conflict and restore Lebanese sovereignty.
