Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the recent assassination of Hamas political chief Yahya Sinwar signifies the end of Hamas’ rule in Gaza. However, experts suggest a different outcome for the Iran-backed militia.
Neil Quilliam from the Chatham House emphasizes that while Sinwar’s death is a setback, Hamas has the potential to bounce back by leveraging new leaders and advancing its military capabilities. Similarly, Peter Lintl of SWP believes that while Hamas may be weakened, Sinwar’s demise is not a fatal blow to the organization.
Despite hopes for a cease-fire following Sinwar’s death, Hamas has vowed to continue the conflict in Gaza until the war ends. The situation is further complicated by the capture of hostages by Hamas, leading to a prolonged stalemate.
