CRS hailed for enhancing agriculture, livelihoods in Lakes State

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment, along with the Catholic Relief Service (CRS), recently completed a three-day monitoring and assessment tour of local farmer groups in Lakes State. The tour covered villages in Rumbek East and Yirol West counties, evaluating the progress of the ‘Supporting Livelihoods for Agropastoralists in Lakes State’ project, funded by Global Affairs Canada.

The Project Steering Committee visited various stakeholders and observed the positive impact of the project, such as increased agricultural activities and improved livelihoods. Farmers, including women and youths, have expanded cultivation areas and harvested significant yields with the support of CRS.

The project manager highlighted the focus on supporting agro-pastoralists, particularly women and youth, by addressing gender barriers and promoting peaceful coexistence between communities. The project has already benefited over 3,500 households, with a strong emphasis on women’s empowerment through training programs.

Overall, the community has expressed gratitude for CRS’s efforts in promoting food security and enhancing livelihoods in Lakes State, encouraging further expansion of similar initiatives. This collaborative effort between various organizations and government bodies is driving positive change in the region.
