Heavy rainfall in Lagos on Thursday morning caused extensive flooding in various parts of the state, leaving commuters and motorists stranded. Major roads, including the Ojota-Yaba Expressway, Ago Palace Way, Iyana-Oworo, and Egbeda areas, were submerged in water.
Residents like Mr. Oduche Azih in Okota reported significant flooding, attributing it to blocked drainage systems. Videos on social media captured the frustration and challenges faced by pedestrians and motorists navigating the flooded streets.
The flooding led to traffic congestion from Alapere to the Third Mainland Bridge, with vehicles struggling through the waterlogged roads. Residents expressed concerns about the recurrent flooding and urged the government to address the drainage system issues.
Despite the government’s efforts to control flooding with the construction of drainage channels, the situation in Lagos remains precarious during heavy rainfall, causing inconvenience and damage to vehicles.
