An investigation is set to be launched into claims of Indian government agents engaging in “electoral interference and criminal activities” in Canada. Members of the standing committee on public safety and national security unanimously agreed to study the matter.
The committee plans to invite top Canadian ministers and security officials for the probe, following accusations of Indian diplomats targeting Sikh separatists in Canada. This has led to a diplomatic spat between the two countries, with mutual expulsions of diplomats.
Prime Minister Trudeau’s government alleges that Indian officials shared information leading to the targeting of Sikh activists by Indian crime groups in Canada. India has denied these claims, labeling them as politically motivated.
The investigation aims to uncover the truth behind these serious allegations and address the escalating tensions between Canada and India.
