PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari Urges Opposition Support for Constitutional Package

In a powerful address, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari called on the JUI-F and opposition to back the constitutional package, emphasizing the need for unity. The package includes crucial amendments, such as extending the chief justice’s term. Despite initial consensus, Bilawal warned of using “brute majority” if opposition support is lacking.

A special parliamentary committee, involving all parties including PTI, has proposed various amendments. The PPP’s draft was made public on October 11, leading to a consensus with JUI-F. However, Bilawal stressed the importance of opposition parties’ cooperation for uncontroversial lawmaking.

Highlighting the necessity for equal representation, Bilawal expressed his willingness to work with the opposition but stated that other options might be considered if a consensus is not reached. He urged parties to prioritize the country’s stability and avoid a path marred by controversy.

Despite facing challenges and allegations of intimidation, Bilawal reiterated the PPP’s commitment to presenting the draft in the National Assembly for approval. Ultimately, he emphasized the importance of political consensus to uphold democratic values.
