Zelenskyy to present ‘victory plan’ in Brussels

NATO shows no sign of accepting Ukrainian membership bid anytime soon

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the importance of NATO finalizing an invitation for Ukraine to join, labeling it as “fundamental” for victory. Despite this, NATO has remained silent on Ukraine’s bid status.

While presenting a “victory plan” to Ukraine’s Parliament, Zelenskyy acknowledged the lack of progress since NATO assured Ukraine of its irreversible path to membership. NATO chief Mark Rutte emphasized the need to support Ukraine in reclaiming territory and improving its position for future peace negotiations.

Zelenskyy is scheduled to attend a NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels to discuss military aid for Kyiv, especially air defense systems and permission to use longer-range missile systems. With Russia’s ongoing invasion causing concerns, the upcoming US Presidential election could impact support for Ukraine.

Despite declarations at the July NATO summit, membership talks for Ukraine are likely to be delayed until the next summit hosted by the Netherlands in June.
