Zelensky to champion ‘victory plan’ for Ukraine at summit

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine is set to present his “victory plan” to EU leaders and NATO defence ministers amidst the ongoing battle against the Russian invasion. The plan aims to force Russia into peace negotiations with increased Western support as Ukraine continues to lose territory in the Donbas region.

Mr. Zelensky’s trip to Brussels includes attending the EU summit and holding a joint press conference with NATO chief Mark Rutte. While NATO countries recognize Ukraine’s path to membership, there is hesitance to extend immediate invitations due to concerns about escalating tensions with Russia.

The US is a key player in decision-making regarding Ukraine’s NATO membership, with concerns about the potential impact of a Trump reelection. As the conflict intensifies, Ukraine is pushing for Western allies to provide military aid and lift restrictions on utilizing advanced weapons.

The NATO talks also highlight the debate over seeking a negotiated outcome with Russia or pursuing a military victory. Despite challenges and uncertainties, Ukraine remains steadfast in its fight for support and protection.
