Sharpeville, located south of Johannesburg, has been rocked by tension as protests erupted following the tragic murder of a local businessman and the injury of his employee. The unrest began on Tuesday when residents targeted foreign nationals’ tuck-shops, looting and burning their stock. Police have not made any arrests in connection to the murder, according to police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
Amid the chaos, five individuals have been apprehended for public violence. Additionally, law enforcement units detained three foreign nationals for possessing unlicensed firearms. The situation remains volatile as authorities are actively monitoring and working to restore order.
