US military strikes Houthi targets in Yemen amid Israel-Gaza conflict

In a recent development, the US military carried out precision strikes on Houthi underground weapons storage facilities in Yemen. US B-2 bombers targeted five hardened locations to degrade the Houthi’s capability to attack commercial shipping. The strikes, led by US defence secretary Lloyd Austin, aimed to neutralize Houthi threats. This use of the B-2 stealth bomber marked a significant escalation in the conflict.

The Houthis, an Iran-backed group, have been engaged in conflicts in the region for years. The recent strikes are part of the ongoing back-and-forth attacks between the US and the Houthis. The Houthis’ response to the strikes remains unknown, with casualties and damages yet to be confirmed.

Concurrently, tensions in the region have increased, with Israel targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon and growing concerns over the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The US has urged Israel to allow more aid into Gaza, while the risk of cholera spreading in Lebanon poses a new challenge. These events underscore the volatile and complex nature of the geopolitical landscape in the Middle East.
