UK sanctions Russian oil and LNG ships

Britain cracks down on Russian oil tankers with new sanctions

Britain has upped the ante by imposing sanctions on 18 more Russian oil tankers and four liquefied natural gas vessels, in an effort to curb what it calls the country’s shadow fleet evading Western restrictions on Russian oil. This move, targeting vessels like NS Bora and Atlas, brings the total number of sanctioned Russian oil tankers to 43. These tankers will now be banned from UK ports and maritime services.

The government is also demanding transparency from Russian vessels passing through the English Channel regarding their insurance status to crack down on illicit practices. Any entity aiding Russia’s questionable activities is warned of potential sanctions.

Despite Western pressure, Russia remains defiant about limiting its oil exports. This crackdown comes as a response to a surge in tankers carrying uninsurable cargoes. Britain is taking a tough stance against Russia’s underhand tactics in the oil industry.
