Turkmenistan sees promising growth in trade with SCO nations

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, October 17 – Turkmenistan is poised for a significant boost in trade turnover with members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), as highlighted during a delegation led by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov’s visit to Pakistan for the SCO Heads of Government Council meeting. Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of direct engagement with SCO member states’ business communities and the development of transport infrastructure, including the North-South transport corridor project connecting Turkmenistan to Iran and India along the Caspian Sea coast.

The strong potential for increased trade ties and collaborative projects was underscored by Turkmenistan, anticipating mutual benefits for all parties involved. Notably, Turkmenistan is actively involved in the North-South corridor’s development, with a roadmap signed with Russia, Kazakhstan, and Iran in July 2024 to enhance its capacity and efficiency, aiming to reduce transit costs and time compared to traditional routes.
