The Tumaini Initiative, led by Kenyan President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, aims to build on previous peace talks by involving various stakeholders, including IGAD and Community Sant’Egidio. This inclusive approach acknowledges past mistakes and works towards a more comprehensive and effective solution. By bringing all parties together under one roof, the mediation process fosters dialogue and mutual understanding, paving the way for a sustainable peace agreement.
As the Chief Mediator, General Lazarus Sumbeiywo has expressed optimism that the Tumaini Initiative Agreement will be signed in November 2024, offering hope to the people of South Sudan. The commitment to finding African solutions to African problems through initiatives like Tumaini demonstrates a shift towards self-reliance and collaborative efforts in addressing the continent’s challenges.
