The recent award of a natural gas license to an Omani company signals progress in tapping into the country’s vast gas resources. However, the slow pace of infrastructure development has led to long queues at the few existing filling stations in Dar es Salaam, where motorists eagerly await their turn to fill up on compressed natural gas (CNG).
Despite the challenges, drivers like Amon Amani find the switch to CNG beneficial due to its cost-effectiveness and environmental advantages. Companies like Taqa Dalbit are working to expand the CNG network, recognizing the demand for cleaner fuel options. With plans to establish more filling stations and conversion centers, Tanzania is on track to revolutionize its transportation sector with affordable and eco-friendly CNG. As the country aims to harness its abundant natural gas reserves, the shift towards CNG aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision for a greener future by 2030.
