Tragic Attack in Nasir County: Civilians Killed and Injured by SSPDF
Reports from local authorities in Nasir County, Upper Nile State, reveal a devastating attack by the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) that resulted in the deaths of three civilians, including a woman, and injuries to at least 14 others, predominantly women and children. County Commissioner James Gatluak confirmed the casualty figures and strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a planned assault on civilians by the SSPDF.
The attack, which occurred in multiple directions targeting key locations, lasted for 3 intense hours. In addition to civilian casualties, 13 SSPDF attackers lost their lives during the confrontation, with unclear motives driving the national army’s aggressive actions.
Commissioner Gatluak also highlighted a subsequent attack on Thursday morning and expressed concerns about the safety of local officials after his office and residence were targeted in bombings. He emphasized the need for immediate investigations and accountability for those responsible amid escalating tensions in the area.
