PM Shehbaz Chairs SCO Meeting, Signs Key Documents

PM Shehbaz led the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting where leaders reaffirmed support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative. While India objected to the BRI, all member states criticized Western sanctions and protectionist trade practices.

The joint communique highlighted discussions on setting up an SCO bank and cooperation in politics and security. Leaders emphasized connectivity for economic growth and support for projects like the BRI, CPEC, and INSC.

A focus on infrastructure projects, using national currencies, and reducing external financial dependence were key points. The leaders denounced unilateral sanctions and trade restrictions, aiming for open trade and economic collaboration.

They also discussed the establishment of financial institutions to boost economic cooperation. Security threats like terrorism and regional stability were addressed, with a call for joint action on climate change and environmental protection.

The summit concluded with the signing of eight important documents.
