SC Upholds Constitutionality of Citizenship Act Sec 6A

A Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud pronounced the verdict on the constitutionality of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act.

The Supreme Court upholds Section 6A of the Citizenship Act in a 4:1 verdict.

Section 6A is a special provision related to the “Assam Accord” signed in 1985 after the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud led the Constitution Bench that decided on the pleas challenging Section 6A.
