In a recent development, Ukraine’s Navy spokesperson, Dmytro Pletenchuk, revealed that Russia is resorting to using its warships to divert attention from its mass missile attacks on Ukraine due to their limited effectiveness in launching strikes. These missile attacks have been increasingly targeted at port infrastructure and civilian vessels in Odesa Oblast from the Black and Azov seas, with Russia even deploying cruise missile carriers.
Pletenchuk highlighted that Russian submarines at sea are primarily stationed to guard their bases rather than carry out missile launches. Ukraine, in response, has successfully targeted and disabled around 30% of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. The Ukrainian military’s sabotage operations have also put Russian vessels, like the Baltic Fleet minesweeper Alexander Obukhov, out of action.
These strategic moves have compelled Moscow to relocate its naval forces from occupied Crimea to Novorossiysk. The successful strikes by Ukraine have significantly disrupted Russian naval operations in the region, showcasing Ukraine’s strength and resolve in the face of aggression.
